For this reason, you must build a projected web map on top of a basemap using the same projection. Feature layers can be projected in web maps to any projection, but tiled layers cannot. You can build web maps using any projected coordinate system, including custom projected coordinate systems. It is often necessary to make maps with a coordinate system other than Web Mercator.
